Jazz Appreciation Tours the World

Our well-attended Jazz Appreciation Group made a tour of the world of Jazz at their meeting on Tuesday 27 June 2023.

Starting in the USA with ‘Fats’ Waller playing “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, then to France for Django Reinhardt, then to New England for Bing Crosby singing “Now you has Jazz”. Back to France for Claude Luter for Creole Jazz, then Prague for a battle of the pianos with Count Basie and Oscar Peterson playing Jumpin at the Woodside, and then on to Switzerland for Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie at Montreux. Next was Benny Goodman playing at Aurex in Japan, and the Glen Miller Orchestra playing at Västerås in Sweden.

It was then on to Germany for the Modern Jazz Quartet playing Golden Strike in Leonburg, quickly followed by the Jacques Loussier Trio playing their jazz style Bach in Leipzig, and back to Switzerland for a performance of “Ice Cream” by the Wolfgang Friedrich with the New Orleans Dixielandband.

The first half closed with Hava Nagila, an example of Klezmer Music from Israel.

After a short break, the world tour continued with Barcelona, New Orleans, Pakistan, Brazil, The Netherlands and finished in New Orleans. Time ran out before more countries could be visited for their contributions to the world of jazz!
