Our Gardening Group enjoyed another Garden Party at a member’s home on the afternoon of Wednesday 09 September 2026.
As well as a sumptuous tea provided by our hosts, there was an opportunity to discuss the effects and consequences of the 60 days with no significant rain that had been experienced this year. As well as figs failing to ripen, we were shown a plum tree that appeared to have dried up and died. There was no green cambium layer to be found under its bark.
Some plants have done well, and we were shown a Pumpkin Patch that had arrived in the vegetable garden. Our host claimed that he had not planted them, but there they were, and growing steadily. After tea, one of the pumpkins was harvested and shared out between those planning to attend Prince Charming’s Ball, those planning Thanksgiving dishes, and those hoping that the seeds would be viable for next year.
We also discussed the effectiveness of plants in controlling insect pests in the garden and some seeds of cayenne, of basil and of marigolds were shared with our host.
Our next Gardening Group meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 23 September 2026 at 2:00pm.
