On Wednesday 26 August 2026 in the afternoon, our Gardening Group made a visit to the Barn Hill Conservation. Their base is in the Walled Garden in Roe Green, Kingsbury. The Group has won many awards, and their 2026-2027 Community Green Flag Award had pride of place.

Like many gardens in North West London, they have been suffering with the exceptionally long period of drought, and this had resulted in some of their specimens struggling. Also their work in and around Kingsbury, and also in Fryent Country Park has been challenging. Even their circular pond feature was having a hard time compared with our last visit in August 2022 shown below!

Even their bug hotel seemed to be struggling with the drought, but there are some plants that can thrive in the dry conditions. Not far from the bug hotel was a Passion Flower vine that was flowering profusely and also producing its fruits.

The Barn Hill Conservation Group is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, and there are opportunities to volunteer in the base and in their conservation projects.
