Back to a Desert Island with Records

Our Desert Island Castaways on Tuesday 24 March 2026 were husband and wife Jeff and Evelyn. Chivalry dictated that Evelyn should go first, and so it was.

Evelyn’s choices included Nursery Rhymes in the styles of various musicians, an excerpt from the Benny Hill Show, the Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture, the Habanera from Carmen, Hava Nagila with Danny Kaye and Harry Belafonte, a song by Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra, Ann Miller, two songs from Barbara Streisland and an oldie from Al Jolson.

Next it was the turn of Jeff, and he started with the Singing Nuns and Dominica, Sir Tom Jones singing Delilah after seeing an impersonator on a childhood holiday, Sloop John B from the Beach Boys, Fred Wenlock, Bus Stop sung by Graham Gouldman, Doctor Hook’s A Little Bit More, Lost in France – following a camping adventure there, On the Street Where You Live from My Fair Lady, West Side Story, and a song from HMS Pinafore. He finished with an occupational reference in The Telephone Man.

This was a fascinating insight into the lives of two people who have been local to Kenton for almost all their lives, and their stories, combined with the music, proved to be wonderful entertainment.

Our next Desert Island Discs will be on 28 April 2026 at 2pm.
