Our Creative Writing Group met again on Wednesday 18 March 2026 for a session which included a high level of fantasy amongst the offerings.
We started with a glamorous lady vampire who had been inducted whilst serving as a maid in the home of Leonardo da Vinci on 12 September 1490. She frequents a pub in the East End of London when she requires sustenance.
We were then with a fox terrier who meets a ferret, the new family pet arriving in his home territory, and having to work out if the new arrival is going to be a friend or a foe. Happily everything seems to work out okay and a division of territory is agreed by the two pets.
From there we moved to a fantasy speed dating event for ladies which managed to find a successful arrangement on the first try, That was definitely speedy! We also had a widow who manages to take up a career that had been set aside in order to raise a family, and her second attempt turns out to be more successful that she could have dreamed.
We heard about a retired deputy headteacher from Ireland who had suffered during WW2 whilst a child on Jersey, and a young man at a party on a mission to break up his relationship, but he gets so tongue tied that he proposes marriage instead. We also had two close shaves with disaster, one in the kitchen and the other on a pontoon in Gosport Harbour.
To round off the session, we had six different poems tackling gardening, ephemera, servitude, midnight carousing and the pressure on being in service in a foreign country.
Our next session will be on Wednesday 01 April 2026, so we will have to be doubly careful!
