Our Gardening Group met on Wednesday 26 November 2025 in the afternoon for an uplifting meeting.
We started with the usual list of jobs to be done at this time of year, which started with advice on warm winter clothing to wear whilst working in the garden. We then had a list of chores to be carried out at the end of November, including planting tulips for next year, lifting dahlia tubers, general clearing and tidying up tasks including protecting shrubs from local wildlife!
Optimism was encouraged with recommendations on seed catalogues for next year’s crops and flowers, and members were urged to get their garlic cloves planted before the really cold weather arrives. There was also a distribution of seeds from this year’s surpluses, and a selection of jams and chutneys from 2025 crops was available to members.
We then moved on to a discussion that would strengthen ties between our Gardening Group and our local community. A number of projects were discussed in detail, and those with practical experience in ‘Community Gardens’ offered the benefit of their knowledge. In particular, parking opportunities, water supplies, toilet and refreshment facilities were discussed. Special mention was given to Health and Safety too. It was agreed that a number of projects would be itemised, and a poll of the members of the Gardening Group would be taken to determine which Project would suit us best.
