u3a Creativity on Show in Many Ways!

Our Monthly Meeting on 26 November 2025 was our annual chance to demonstrate creativity in the many ways to be found in Kenton & District u3a.

We had a variety of pieces from our Creative Writing Group. We started with a poem about a Sunday Night Performance by a singer with her band. We then had an eerie story about a sister-in-law going missing after travelling on a ghostly train. We attended the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, but not viewed from the perspective of Alice Liddell but rather Henry, who had found a top hat he could wear. We then had two poems – one dealing with the Cosmos, and one dealing with the turn of a year. We were next at the altar for a wedding and an exploration of the question, “If any knows just cause or impediment ….” We then travelled to India for a thieving bird and a reunion of two orphans who had been parted as children when they were given to a local temple.

The group had been exploring the role of Agony Aunt and had some humorous insights into what can go wrong, especially when the Agony Aunt is also a character in a problem relationship. We had another story concerning siblings who had been adopted in Dharamsala without knowing their real parents. We then continued with a story travelling through the hill country of Thailand. We attended a Christmas Market in Lithuania where the police broke up the celebration, and we heard the views of a dog staying with Granny for Christmas. We closed this section with a child discovering the truth about the Christmas Story.

There was a display of 49 watercolour paintings painted by our Watercolour Art Group, and there was a selection of carefully knitted items produced by our Knit and Chat Group.

Refreshments were donated for the refreshment break, but members made voluntary contributions to the Macmillan Coffee Morning Appeal for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Our next Monthly Meeting will be on Wednesday 12 December 2025 and will feature our Playreading Group and our Singing for Pleasure Group as part of our Winter Social Event.
