Consequences of AI – Energy & Safety

Our group examining the Consequences of Artificial Intelligence on Tuesday 11 November 2025 started with an examination of the consequences of establishing the AI Data Centres and the costs of running them, both to the AI Company and to the Community where they are located.

Whilst many of the new Data Centres are located in the USA, 3 new Data Centres are planned in the London Area. The Group looked at the land required, the electricity required, the water or other arrangements for cooling the equipment, the copper for wires and the silicon for the processors and the security required to prevent misuse. They then moved on to the costs of establishing these warehouses of computers, and the joint endeavours that are being set up at the moment. With the costs exceeding the Gross National Product of many countries, what are the consequences for the nations that have to rely on the goodwill of the AI Companies?

After a break for teas and coffees, the group moved on to how the technology can be used safely and effectively. There is more to the configuration of the user’s account settings than meets the eye, and details on the settings that are available on one example AI Engine were itemised and described, The ability to search is something that many people understand, but using the engine for research, for assembling facts clearly, for creating images and presentations and for studying and learning were examined.

The session finished with a study prompt which can be adapted to whatever subject is being tackled, and this was made available to all the members of the group. The next session will take place on 09 December 2025 at 2pm, and examine the consequences for education resulting from the wide availability of Artificial Intelligence
