Our popular Playreading Group has now split into two groups, but there were two unexpected guests at their meeting on Monday 28 July 2025. One was our webmaster who attended to see what goes on in a Playreading Group. The other was a play by Agatha Christie, “The Unexpected Guest” first produced in London in 1958. There is even a YouTube video of a BBC World Service Production of the play available at this location.
After making allowances for the language and customs of the 1950s expressed in the play, the readers settled down to the task. There are 9 roles in the cast, but as you would expect with Agatha Christie, one of the cast is already deceased, following a series of circumstances which emerge during the play.

To make sure everyone got a fair go, there were some casting changes between Act I and Act II. The readers were able to read the whole play, including time for an interval for teas and coffees, within the two hours allowed.
The Playreaders will not be meeting during August, but both groups will return in September, one on 15 September 2025, the other on 22 September 2025.
